SalesLoft to add 55 Atlanta Positions

August 8, 2014 by Thom Abbott

SalesLoft to add jobsSalesLoft, a start up company that helps businesses find new customers has received some impressive financial muscle and will add some 55 positions to the company in the next two years.

Tom Noonan,  a serial entrepreneur who sold Internet Security Systems Inc. to IBM Corp. for about $1.6 billion, recently invested $800,000 in SalesLoft.

The company headquarters is located in the Technology Building located at Piedmont Road and The Buckhead Loop. While housing opportunities exist in the area, SalesLoft employees might want to consider Midtown Atlanta as a great living option. Employees could even ride MARTA to the Buckhead Station and stroll through the Terminus development to their office building.

We look forward to helping these future SalesLoft employees find awesome places to live in Midtown Atlanta!

Atlanta Streets Alive Comes to Midtown Sunday, May 18, 2014 2-6pm

May 15, 2014 by Thom Abbott

Midtown Atlanta Streets Alive May 18 2014It’s not every day that you see streets in Atlanta not filled with the ever present automobile. Unless you live in a neighborhood like Midtown Atlanta, it’s pretty hard NOT to have a car and get around.

But, we are making strides in getting the urban core of Atlanta to be more transit-oriented, as well as even more walkable. So, what better way to get you into the streets, than to CLOSE THE STREET TO AUTOMOBILE TRAFFIC!

Atlanta Streets Alive Comes to Midtown

Sunday, May 18, 2014 2-6pm

This Sunday, May 18, 2014 from 2-6pm, Peachtree Street will be closed from 17th Street to Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive in Downtown Atlanta. Yes, Peachtree Street will be free of cars and you can walk right down the middle to your hearts content!

Activities will be varied from zumba classes to fashion shows and more! Or you might find a choice spot in a sidewalk cafe and just watch the people while you enjoy lunch and your favorite beverage (I’m thinking you might find me at my fav…Gordon Biersch Midtown!)

For more information, here is the flyer from Midtown Alliance!

And here is the Map. Never fear, the yellow dots indicate where automobiles WILL be able to CROSS Peachtree Street, but not travel North and South!

Is Atlanta Ready (or Willing) For Transit?

March 21, 2014 by Thom Abbott

An informative post, but some what of an editorial one as well!

Atlanta is on the rise again! Cranes are coming out of the ground in Midtown and Buckhead as new apartment towers start to take shape. And yes, even the suburbs are on fire again as homes are being built and excess lot inventory is dropping to even critical levels in some areas!

But, is Atlanta Ready (or Willing) to embrace transit as a way to get to and from work? The first portion of an Atlanta Streetcar will open later this year in Downtown, between the Centennial Olympic Park and the Auburn District. Hopefully more to come in the future? Expansion of the MARTA rail line is doubtful due to the cost. So that leave bust transit, probably the most cost effective. So, will Atlanta embrace it…and will we need or use a Downtown Multi-Modal Transit Terminal like this?

Multi Modal Transit Terminal

Stories about the 119-acre development in the heart of Downtown Atlanta (can you wrap your head around the fact that a major metropolitan area HAS 119 acres in its DOWNTOWN to develop in the first place?) have appeared in both the Atlanta Business Chronicle and Curbed. com. It seems the folks at Curbed.com got access to a video that has since disappeared from any and all of the links referenced in each story. But you can see some more of the plans in the Curbed.com article here.

What do you think? Do you see Atlantan’s headed to Downtown from the burbs on buses?

5 Cities Buy More Than Half of All Electric Vehicles in U.S. | Autopia | Wired.com

March 12, 2014 by Thom Abbott

See on Scoop.it – Midtown Atlanta Conversations and Condos

It’s a stat that should surprise absolutely no one. More than half of all electric vehicles in the U.S. are silently running around five major cities.

Thom Abbott‘s insight:

An exact reason why recent development presented to the Midtown Alliance were told “You need to do more that put in the infrastructure for charging stations…you need to install charging stations.”

Keeping GATech safe

March 6, 2014 by Thom Abbott

See on Scoop.it – Georgia Tech News Events

Images flashed across 10 screens on the front wall.
There’s video of street action both in and around Georgia Tech’s campus. Take a look over there and you’ll see people walking along Fowler Street. Another screen shows action at the intersection of 10th Street and Hemphill Avenue.
Although the room feels like an air traffic control center, it’s really an enhanced operation center at the Georgia Tech Police Department (GTPD).

Thom Abbott‘s insight:

“The department installed 26 cameras along the major arteries leading into campus. This creates a video fence around the perimeter of campus and allows for a broader view of what’s going on in real-time, Deputy Chief Rob Connolly said.

“This is just another tool for us to keep the campus safe,” Connolly said.

In deciding where to place the cameras, GTPD reviewed prior incidents and access points to determine which locations would have the most impact. The department already has the ability to patrol more than 600 fixed building cameras scattered around campus.”

NYC’s coming ‘supertowers’ are nothing to fear

February 16, 2014 by Thom Abbott

See on Scoop.it – Georgia Tech News Events

Who’s afraid of “supertowers” near Central Park? Most of the city’s inflexible preservationists, ivory-tower urbanists, community “activists,” pandering politicians, architectural critics and architects themselves, except for those fortunate enough to…

Thom Abbott‘s insight:

Our “Super Towers” may soon be here with new development planned for Midtown Atlanta at 60 Stories! I say BRING IT ON!!!
