Tyler Perry’s Buckhead Mansion Could Be Yours!

June 18, 2015 by Thom Abbott

Tyler Perry Buckhead Mansion For Sale June 18, 2015Let’s be clear here….the 35,000 square feet does not include the “hobby house” or the “underground ballroom with catering kitchen.”

Ok.

Tyler Perry’s Buckhead Mansion Could Be Yours!

Situated on 17 private acres with “substantial Chattahoochee River frontage, the listing photographs really make it a home  mansion you could live in. You know…you’ve seen those mansions where the rooms look like no one has ever, or would ever sit on the furniture?

Tyler Perry’s home looks to be as gracious as he is. I’ve actually met Tyler at a wrap party for one of his movies, and used to manage a condo that the studio leased for actors to stay in. (Rumor has it from residents of the building that Janet Jackson was spotted there!….Nah, I’m not telling you where! That’s a no-no!) I’ve also been on a couple sets of the movie For Colored Girls and actually spoke to him then as well. (That ALSO is a big deal as you are given strict instructions not to speak to him when you are on set…but he spoke to me first! Ok, wait. Back to the mansion….

From the living room, to the kitchen, to the Master Suite…it all looks very livable indeed. And the resort-like infinity pool….well after the heat we’ve seen in Atlanta the past few days…it looks like a mirage in the desert! Amazing!

While the home is listed by Atlanta Fine Homes Sotheby’s International, I’d be delighted to be your Buyer’s Agent in purchasing this one-of-a-kind Atlanta estate. There are some pretty strict showing and financial guidelines to meet before we will be touring the estate..but I didn’t have to tell you that, did I?

We're sorry, but we couldn't find MLS # 5557043 in our database. This property may be a new listing or possibly taken off the market. Please check back again.

Five Reasons Why Film Is Here To Stay in Georgia

May 15, 2015 by Thom Abbott

Fast and Furious 7 Atlanta Filming May 15, 2015I’ve worked with many individuals relocating to the Atlanta area because of our ever-growing film industry. And yes, you look around and new sound stages and/or studios are going up everywhere. And there is good reason to think this will be an industry that will be around for some time to come.

Five Reasons Why Film Is Here To Stay in Georgia

I just read this article this morning online in the Southern Political Report Magazine. I’m sharing the link with you for you to read the entire article.

But in summary:

  1. Georgia has one of the best film incentive programs in the country by several measures.
  2. Not only does Georgia have a strong incentive program, but it is well known in the film industry as being stable.
  3. Studios and related businesses are being constructed, moving from other states or expanding.
  4. Georgia is one of only two states (New Mexico is the other) that have developed a statewide centralized a crew training program in its higher education system.
  5. Georgia has a number of indigenous features that make it attractive for film production.

We are delighted to help the many people moving here. With the diverse location of studios (Pinewood Atlanta in Fayette County, Eagle Rock and Atlanta Media Campus in Gwinnett, Mailing Avenue and Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta…and the list really does go on…..) many of our clients have found the central location of Midtown or Buckhead as the place to live. Having easy access to The Downtown Connector (I-75/85) and GA400 make it easy to get to and from any set or studio in the metro Atlanta area. Additionally, the access to MARTA in Midtown makes getting in and out of the city with access to Hartsfield Jackson International Airport easy for many of these people that can be on tight schedules.

Yep. The film industry is here in Georgia in a big way. And we are happy to help you find the place to call it home!

Third Rail Studios at Assembly Doraville

May 5, 2015 by Thom Abbott

Third Rail Studios May 5, 2015Third Rail Studios will join the growing number of film and television studios opening in the Metro Atlanta area. This studio will have a unique location as part of Assembly Doraville, which is the official name for the site where the GM Doraville plant is being redeveloped.

The Integral Group, which acquired the GM site last year, is partnering with Capstone South Properties to develop “Third Rail Studios” on a six-acre section of the 165-acre development.

Third Rail Studios at Assembly Doraville

The first phase of Third Rail Studios will be in an existing 130,000-square-foot building retrofitted into film and television production studios. It will include 60,000 square feet of sound stages and 20,000 square feet of production support mill shops, administrative offices and related vendor spaces.

MyMidtownMojo.com took a walking tour of the site that is still going through demolition.

You can learn more about the studio as it developsThird Rail Studios, or at our Facebook Page, Living Near Third Rail Studios on Facebook.

May 1, 2015 by Thom Abbott

Halt and Catch Fire May 1, 2015If you have been anywhere in Atlanta, you know that the film business is BIG business here. Studios from Pinewood Atlanta in Fayette County, Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta and Atlanta Filmworks are just a few of them.

And there are more on the way with Third Rail Studios just announced at the Assembly Doraville, Atlanta Metro Studios also in South Fulton area, and the proposed Atlanta Media Campus and Studios in Norcross.

Halt and Catch Fire Producer Sings Praise on the Atlanta Film Industry

But, it’s always good press and good news when a Producer of a major hit TV show sings the praises of the Atlanta Film community and what is like to do business here. Listen to Jeff Frelich, Producer of Halt and Catch Fire below.

Here at MyMidtownMojo.com we enjoy helping our clients as they look to either purchase investment property in the Atlanta area, or look to establish a new home here.

We can sign the praise of the Atlanta film community as well!

Third Rail Studios to Open at Former GM Site in Doraville

April 4, 2015 by Thom Abbott

If you ever had any question or doubt about the impact the film and TV industry is having on Georgia, and especially the Atlanta area, this should end it. Another major studio project has just been announced.

Third Rail Studios to Open at Former GM Site in Doraville

The Integral Group, which acquired the GM site last year, is partnering with Capstone South Properties to develop “Third Rail Studios” on a six-acre section of the 165-acre development, located at I-285 and I-85 and INSIDE the Perimeter or ITP.

The first phase of Third Rail Studios will take an existing 130,000-square-foot building that will be retrofitted into film and television production studios.  Included will be  60,000 square feet of sound stages and 20,000 square feet of production support mill shops, administrative offices and related vendor spaces.

From my knowledge of the site, this will take place in The Yards Gateway section, as you can see on the site plan below.

ASSEMBLY Doraville Georgia April 4. 2015

When fully-built out, Third Rail Studios will be a 270,000-square-foot-facility.

Third Rail Studios ASSEMBLY Doraville April 4, 2015

“It’s something everybody can get excited about because it provides a big spark,” said Eric Pinckney, Integral’s project executive for Assembly.

The studios are expected to open for business by the end of the year, said Christopher Martorella, Integral’s president of commercial real estate.

“It’s something that can happen very quickly because there’s an existing place that lends itself well to what we want to do,” Martorella said.

The film studio is the first major project to be announced for the Assembly development, which is being marketed and presented as several different neighborhood districts. Plans call for an extension of Park Avenue from Buford Highway, under the Doraville MARTA station directly into ASSEMBLY.

Despite the plethora of movie studios planned or open in Atlanta, there is pent-up demand for more film and television production facilities, said Egbert Perry, CEO of Integral. Having Third Rail Studios as part of the Assembly development will add a “sexy, funky, cool” flavor to that part of the GM site.

“Third Rail Studios” refers to the three rail lines that previously served the GM Doraville assembly plant, as well as the creative energy in the media production community.

The now unused rail lines will be preserved and integrated within the landscape, much like New York City’s Highline, which is a very popular destination. The studios will anchor the “Yards District” portion of the site, a funky, modern industrial”ish” destination for dining, entertainment, parks, art, retail, makers, and other businesses. Think Midtown West…only on steroids?

Third Rail Studios April 4, 2015

“We are still way below what is needed to support the industry as it exists today,” Perry said of the new studio project. “It doesn’t begin to address the existing demand, not to mention any growth in demand.”

Lee Thomas, director of the Georgia Film Commission, confirmed Perry’s statement. “Georgia’s film industry is at an all-time high with 39 productions currently filming across the state, many of which are long-term tenants in our existing soundstages,” Thomas said.

The design for Third Rail Studios is led by Janson Tsai, a division of the architectural design firm Perkins Eastman (Of Note…Perkins Eastman is the firm that designed the entire ASSEMBLY site for Integral). Previous work includes design of Kaufman/Astoria Film Studios and Steiner Film Studios in New York, as well as projects with Imagine Films, CBS Television,NBC Universal, ESPN, Disney, and Sony — among others.

“We are creating an urban node in the heart of DeKalb County in a way that is not just an island unto itself but one that in fact connects to many other smaller urban nodes,” Perry said. “That the intent. It has more multimodal attributes than probably any other site in the region… Assembly is truly a place where everything comes together. It actually is very much an appropriate name.”
