Georgia Tech Robots Play Music

April 23, 2013 by Thom Abbott

I mean nothing against any other university anywhere else…but there is some pretty cool stuff that comes out of Georgia Tech. I’m always on the hunt for these kinds of stories…and love to share them.

Check out the video as these Georgia Tech Robots play music and even mimic gazelle’s chasing a lion! Pretty cool!

Makes you want one of your own, doesn’t it?

Georgia Tech Hotel and Conference Center

April 13, 2013 by Thom Abbott

Georgia Tech Hotel Midtown AtlantaIn a former life, I was a busy executive that traveled. I also worked in the hotel industry for many years, and just like real estate, it was about location, location, location! While there are numerous hotels in the Midtown Atlanta area, if you are here for business with GATech, the the Georgia Tech Hotel and Conference Center IS the place to stay!

This new building is located on the corner of Spring and 5th Streets in Technology Square. The Midtown MARTA station is about 3 blocks from the hotel, making it easy to reach campus from Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport and not need a car!

Featuring 252 rooms, the hotel offers several room types and suites. Wireless high speed internet is available in the guest rooms and public areas of the hotel. Rooms also feature 37″ flat screen tv’s, iron, ironing board, hair dryers and in room coffee makers.

If you are a Georgia Tech parent coming for a campus visit, this certainly is the place to stay!

ATTENTION Georgia Tech Parents!! Looking For That Perfect Off Campus Housing?

March 13, 2013 by Thom Abbott

Georgia Tech Off Campus HousingI’ve worked with numerous Georgia Tech parents that are looking for living options for their GATech student…other than on campus living. And many have turned to Midtown Atlanta Real Estate as a solution to their problem.

Just a couple weeks ago, I placed the ONLY 2 bedroom condo at Cornerstone Village Under Contract for parents of a GATech student! They are really excited about the place they got…and so is their daughter and her roommate!

I wanted to make you aware of another opportunity …at a great price…that could meet your needs, and long-term perhaps be an investment property for you!

DISCLAIMER NOTE :  This property is NOT my listing, but I’d be delighted to represent you as your Buyer’s Agent in making this purchase!

This is one of the over-sized one-bedroom floor plans (1,000+ sq. ft.) that was nicely converted into a 2 bedroom condo. It has huge living space with room for living room furniture, plus some student study areas (desks, bookcase and such) While the two bedrooms are smaller than normal, each has a window and probably more space than a typical dorm room would. There is one bath that can be shared.  It also has only 1 parking space, but since we are within walking distance to Tech Square or the Tech Trolley stop…no problem!

The kitchen is complete with granite counters and black appliances, and has room for a FULL-SIZED washer and dryer right in the condo. GREAT…no need to lose study time or wander off to some laundry area…it’s all right inside your condo!

We also had a post about the demand for on-campus housing earlier this week!

Contact me today before this one is GONE!!!

ATTENTION Georgia Tech Parents!! Looking For That Perfect Off Campus Housing?

We're sorry, but we couldn't find MLS # 5119348 in our database. This property may be a new listing or possibly taken off the market. Please check back again.

Sting Hunger Now Meal-Packaging Event | Friday, March 8, 2013

March 7, 2013 by Thom Abbott

Sting Hunger Now Event at GATechThe first annual Sting Hunger Now Meal-Packaging Event will be held on the campus of the Georgia Institute of Technology on March 8, 2013 as part of Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, though the event is being sponsored by a variety of clubs and organizations on campus in an effort to unite campus through a global-scope volunteering event.

Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week is the annual week hosted by Georgia Tech’s Mobilizing Opportunities for Volunteer Experience (MOVE) club, which organizes service opportunities for students, faculty, and staff on campus. This year MOVE is partnering with CCF, absorbing CCF’s formerly-known Week of Compassion. Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week is an opportunity to recruit the next generation of volunteers while promoting knowledge of the issues of hunger and homelessness in our communities, both on a local and global scale.

The Sting Hunger Now Meal-Packaging Event, in a partnership with Stop Hunger Now International Hunger Relief, is the culminating event of the week, inviting any and all persons on campus to participate in packaging 100,000 meals for children and families in developing countries and crisis situations.

ANOTHER GATech Parent Buys Midtown Atlanta Condo!

February 25, 2013 by Thom Abbott

Investing in your child’s higher education is an important thing! I remember the couple dollars ( or few) that my parents shelled out to send me to the University of Houston and the Hilton College of Hotel and Restaurant Management. At that time, I’m not sure if my parents had the money to purchase a home or condo for me to live in..it was probably the time of 15% interest rates! But in Midtown Atlanta, parents at Georgia Tech have another opportunity to invest in their child’s education….Buying Midtown Atlanta Real Estate!

ANOTHER GATech Parent Buys Midtown Atlanta Condo!

This past Friday, another GATech parent invested in their child’s future by buying a Midtown Atlanta condo….in this case, at Cornerstone Village. Cornerstone is still a value option for a parent looking to purchase a condo for their student to live in while attending GATech!  This was the last 2 bedroom that was on the market, but another one could appear anytime? There are still some great 1-bedroom options, but they don’t work to well for students that might want a room mate. Click Here to learn MORE about Cornerstone Village!

Georgia Tech Off Campus Housing in Midtown Atlanta Condos

Prices are going up….despite what you hear about the economy or real estate elsewhere in the country. Cornerstone Village in fact saw an average price increase of 18% from 2011 to 2012!!! Now just might be the best time to buy!

A long term investment opportunity may be available to you once your son or daughter leaves school. Leasing your condo requires an approved leasing permit from the HOA!  This waiting list in most Midtown Atlanta condo buildings pushes FIVE YEARS! So, if you purchase now, and your student lives there for 4-5 years, and you’ve placed your name on the rental permit waiting list, you might clear it and be able to rent your Midtown Atlanta condo back out! FULL DISCLOSURE — there is NO, repeat NO guarantees that you will clear the list in this time period. It’s just an option for you to consider.

New Georgia Tech High Rise Housing on the Horizon! (Literally!)

February 13, 2013 by Thom Abbott

High Rise Apartments to Be Built Near GATechLast night, I attended the Design Review Committee (DRC) Meeting of the Midtown Alliance. This is one of the many steps developers go through as they announce, develop, and seek community approval of new projects in the Midtown Atlanta area. Most of these projects fall into two areas that the Midtown Alliance “oversees” as part of the Midtown Improvement District.

These areas are closely watched and developed via the Midtown BluePrint and the Special Public Interest (SPI) Zoning Districts.

New Georgia Tech High Rise Housing on the Horizon!

A new housing opportunity will soon rise for students in Midtown Atlanta. First off, as a disclaimer, I did not detect that this is a project that is being built BY GATech, but by an independent contractor on land that is just North of Technology Square, on Spring Street. The location of the building is noted on the map below.

The 17 -story building will have 250+ units and house some 704 students. They will be mostly furnished student housing, although the presenters did not specify if the “units” will have full kitchens in them. (I suspect they will)

There will be some 11,800 sq. ft of retail space on the street levels of Spring, 8th and Peachtree Place. This was a very preliminary view of the plans, and I suspect from the discussions and suggestions from the DRC, we will see some changes in the final plans that will be presented next month.

NOTE: I apologize for the photos….they did not hand out plans to the audience, and they also collected them BACK from the Committee Members once the meeting was over!
