West Midtown Restaurants | Yeah Burger West Midtown

May 2, 2014 by Thom Abbott

Midtown West RestaurantsLast evening brought together a great outdoor (well it did get moved inside due to the rain) event with the Atlanta Film Festival and the Westside Provisions District and an opportunity to sample a new restaurant, Yeah Burger! Ok it may not be “new” but it was my first time there!

Busy, busy, busy would certainly be the way to describe this burger joint. We found a perfect spot at the bar and our server/bartender Daniel was but a glance away the entire time we were there, always checking if everything was ok. Well….

It’s an interesting menu. You can take a $7.99 burger and turn it into a $15 masterpiece work of art of your own doing without much effort! Let’s see, there’s the choice of bun ( gluten-free is a price bump) then the cheese, then toppings (the basic lettuce, tomato, pickle and onions get a free ride) and then you get to “sauce it” with everything from buttermilk ranch to peppercorn steak.

Oh, and the fries, they would be a price bump as well.

Midtown West RestaurantsI took the easy (and less expensive route) and opted for the All-American. “A double stack of grass fed beef with organic ketchup, mustard, pickles, minced onions and organic American Cheese. (I love all this organic stuff…not that I ever try to eat it!) My dinner companion went for the California Love — all natural turkey with arugula , crushed avocodos, Thousand Island and Pepperjack Cheese. We split the 50/50 side of onion rings and organic hand cut fries.

Wait a minute? That was a double stack burger? Funny, it was about the size of my regular burger I make and grill on my own grill! I’ll admit, it had good flavor, but was a little lacking on quantity. The fries were but luke warm, but the ever attentive Daniel came to the rescue with a piping hot, burn-your-tongue batch when we commented about them not being very hot.

To start the meal off, I ordered a Dark & Stormy (which seemed to go with the weather outside). Daniel did a great job of mixing up Gosling’s Black Rum, ginger beer and….you guessed it…organic lime juice. My friend opted for a Mimosa.

West Midtown Yeah BurgerCocktails or not, including tip I wandered out the door with my wallet some $44 lighter. Seriously? $44 for two burgers, two drinks and ONE order of fries/rings. It was tasty, but not sure it was that tasty!

Mind you the burger craze and Yeah Burger was hopping. The to-go orders were flying out the door and the inside table were jamming!

If you’re not so inclined to ride the elevator from your condo to the grills at the amenity deck and whip up your own burger best, then this might be your next option.

Yeah Burger is located just in front of the White Provision Condominiums and across from the many shops (and other restaurants) of the Westside Provisions District.

Midtown Atlanta | You Never Know Who You’ll See!

July 3, 2013 by Thom Abbott

Movies Filmed in Midtown AtlantaI’ve never been a “star watcher.”

I don’t mean the kind in the sky. I mean the kind you see on your favorite TV show or movie.

I could probably walk right past many of them and never even know it, or I’d have that “I swear that was a movie star, but I can’t remember their name” reaction. I’m pretty sure I did that in the Salt Lake City Airport once.

But if you ARE a star watcher, then Midtown Atlanta is probably a good place to hang out!

Movies and TV are a big business in the Metro Atlanta area…and are only going to get bigger with the addition of studios like Pinewood Studios Atlanta. And when the stars are in Atlanta, many of them stay in Midtown Atlanta. The Renaissance Midtown Atlanta Hotel is a very, very popular place for actors to stay who are here a short time filming. (I know many of the Fast and Furious 5 were here…)

My business associate, Ray Benitez, also an actor here in Atlanta was working on the set of Let’s Be Cops, and had the pleasure of working with and talking to Andy Garcia. Andy was in just for the day to film and wanted to sample something close to where filming was taking place. (I’ll keep that location a secret!) Ray suggested Papi’s Cuban Grill in Midtown, at Myrtle and Ponce de Leon Avenue.

Andy enjoyed their great Cuban food, and took a moment to pose with some of their staff. (Photo compliments of Papi’s Cuban Grill)

Keep your eyes open when you are wining and dining in Midtown Atlanta. You just never know who may be at the table next to you.

Shipping Container Construction Makes it to Atlanta | Yumbii to Launch Midtown Restaurant

April 1, 2013 by Thom Abbott

I love creativity. I love “out-of-the-box” thinking. And quite frankly we need more of it in Midtown Atlanta. When we do finally get a great idea, it’s only because somebody else has done it. Shipping container construction is a perfect example. But alas, we are catching up to other cities like San Francisco!

Yumbii To Launch Midtown Restaurant in Shipping Container

Shipping Container Stores In AtlantaYumbii, who also helped launch the food truck industry in Atlanta (another one that has taken off in other cities LONG before it started in the ATL) will now be the pioneer in using a unique form of construction for a restaurant at 10th and Peachtree Streets…a shipping container.

As I mentioned, the trend is well underway in cities like San Francisco, New York and London. this picture shows an amazing use of three containers for the Aether’s high-end apparel store in San Francisco! I mean, how cool looking is that space!!!

Yumbii’s restaurant is proposed for the 10th and Peachtree corner where a new pocket park has just been developed on the mostly empty lot owned by Dewberry Capital. The plan is to expand their food truck menu and have breakfast, lunch and dinner. In an article in the Atlanta Business Chronicle, Yumbii owner Carson Young said the concept is a “natural fit” for the Atlanta BeltLine, since the restaurants can be placed on unusal pieces of land, that might not work for a bricks-and-mortar building, or not be accessible by food trucks.

Indeed, this type of construction could really add a cool, hip edge to the Atlanta Beltline, and also give anyone from restaurants to small retailers a much less expensive way to open small stores.

Come on Atlanta (meaning developers, zoning people and such) let’s catch up and BE the cool place we long to be…..I hope we see more and more of these unique containers appearing around Intown Atlanta and Midtown West!

Where is Main Street in Atlanta? Do You Know?

November 17, 2012 by Thom Abbott

Where Is Main Street in Atlanta GAIf you’ve lived in Atlanta for more than a week, you know that Atlanta is all about naming streets Peachtree Something.

But, Where is Main Street in Atlanta? Do You Know?

The street naming in Atlanta gets downright confusing….are we on Peachtree Street, Peachtree Road, Peachtree Industrial Blvd, or Peachtree Parkway? (That is how many times Peachtree Street, leaving Downtown Atlanta changes names as it heads North all the way to Cumming!)

So, I’m going through a Google Alert (stick we me on this train of thought so you can see how I got here….) The Alert leads me to a post about a GATech fraternity that’s in trouble, to health scores on restaurants, that leads me to a post at Midtown Patch about a perfect score for Five Guys Burgers. Ok, I’m thinking the location at Spire Midtown Atlanta. But no, they reference the “Main Street Five Guys Burgers and Fries located just north of Midtown.”

But Where is Main Street, Just North of Midtown?

Well, a couple of clicks later…I found it. It’s the Five Guys Burgers located at Lindbergh Center and the Lindbergh MARTA Station. WOW! Really? It took me some 3- 5 clicks to find something I should of found on the FIRST post, if they would of called it Five Guys Burgers Lindbergh Center.

In real estate, I often see a  s-t-r-e-t-c-h in describing where a home may be located. But, in reality, if you just say where it ACTUALLY is located, you will probably be much further ahead in people finding your home For Sale or your burger restaurant.
