Where is Main Street in Atlanta? Do You Know?

November 17, 2012 by Thom Abbott

Where Is Main Street in Atlanta GAIf you’ve lived in Atlanta for more than a week, you know that Atlanta is all about naming streets Peachtree Something.

But, Where is Main Street in Atlanta? Do You Know?

The street naming in Atlanta gets downright confusing….are we on Peachtree Street, Peachtree Road, Peachtree Industrial Blvd, or Peachtree Parkway? (That is how many times Peachtree Street, leaving Downtown Atlanta changes names as it heads North all the way to Cumming!)

So, I’m going through a Google Alert (stick we me on this train of thought so you can see how I got here….) The Alert leads me to a post about a GATech fraternity that’s in trouble, to health scores on restaurants, that leads me to a post at Midtown Patch about a perfect score for Five Guys Burgers. Ok, I’m thinking the location at Spire Midtown Atlanta. But no, they reference the “Main Street Five Guys Burgers and Fries located just north of Midtown.”

But Where is Main Street, Just North of Midtown?

Well, a couple of clicks later…I found it. It’s the Five Guys Burgers located at Lindbergh Center and the Lindbergh MARTA Station. WOW! Really? It took me some 3- 5 clicks to find something I should of found on the FIRST post, if they would of called it Five Guys Burgers Lindbergh Center.

In real estate, I often see a  s-t-r-e-t-c-h in describing where a home may be located. But, in reality, if you just say where it ACTUALLY is located, you will probably be much further ahead in people finding your home For Sale or your burger restaurant.

Midtown Neighbors’ Association Community Leader Social | October 10, 2012

October 9, 2012 by Thom Abbott

I’ve always been a firm believer that you should be involved in your community. If you live in a single family home, it might be your neighborhood association. If your home is located within a particular city (Smyrna, Dunwoody, Doraville, etc) then attend your City Council and Planning Commission meetings. (You will be BLOWN AWAY by actually watching government at work!)

If you live in Midtown Atlanta, then tomorrow is a great event for you to attend. The Midtown Neighbors’ Association Community Leader Social. It will be held at Escorpion Tequlia Bar and Cantina, located at 5th and Peachtree Street in Cornerstone Village Condominiums.

I look forward to seeing you all there!

$1.1B bus proposal called ‘pipe dream’

September 13, 2012 by Thom Abbott

As a side note to this article, I attended a real estate broker event at Soleil Laurel Canyon in I guess Kennesaw? It was off of EXIT 20 off of I-575.. I clocked it at 44.1 miles from 14th Street in Midtown. I’ll be doing a post about it later this week!

As I sat there and looked at the people that live there (it’s an adult active community…you have to be 55+ to live there) I thought, do these people, who vote, even have a concept of what it’s like to deal with traffic, on the Downtown Connector everyday? It made me quickly see how getting a regional transportation system in place in Metro Atlanta is like moving a mountain, and then some. Hence my photo below of an old, old bus. Because by the time we do something about our transportation issues in this city….we’ll probably be using old buses.

MARIETTA — After reviewing the findings of the $1.8 million Northwest Corridor Alternatives Analysis study, which calls for a $1.1 billion bus system from Kennesaw State University to Midtown Atlanta, Southeast Commissioner Bob Ott called it “a pipe dream.”

The proposal recommends a $1.1 billion bus system stretching 29 miles from KSU to the MARTA Arts Center Station in Midtown. There are also routes that come off that main line that serve Acworth, Kennesaw, Marietta, Smyrna and the Cumberland Community Improvement District, said Faye DiMassimo, director of the Cobb Department of Transportation, who along with Jim Croy, whose firm conducted the study, made their presentation to the Board of Commissioners on Tuesday.

12th Annual Peachtree Latino Festival Piedmont Park Midtown Atlanta August 26

August 23, 2012 by Thom Abbott

The 12th Annual Festival Peachtree Latino will be in Piedmont Park in Midtown Atlanta, Sunday August 26 from 11am till 8pm.

What is the Festival Peachtree Latino?

Peachtree Latino FestivalSince 2000, the festival has been the largest family and multicultural event in the Southeastern U.S.  Family activities, hundreds of exhibitirs, sporting events and arts and crafts are just some of the activites planned for the 1 day event at Piedmont Park. This year’s festival has an expanded lineup of muscial performances.

Culture and Entertainment

You’ll find the diversity of the Atlanta Latino community will be expressed from Africa to Asia and and Europe to Australia. And you will find that diversity in food, arts and crafts and entertainment!

Yunel Cruz, Chavana, Ana Barbara, El Cata and Widy will be some of the featured performers.

Getting There And Parking

This festival has been held in Centennial Olympic Park for the past few years. A majority of the attendees will be coming from all over the Metro Atlanta area, and may choose to drive, vs. taking MARTA. BAD IDEA! Parking in Midtown around the Piedmont Park area is always a challenge and with the addition of ParkATLANTA and their tickets, it could make for an expensive day if you get a ticket. I’d stronly suggest you drive to one of the outlaying MARTA stations, and take the train to the Midtown MARTA station. You can walk from there to the park and all the festivities. If you are driving, jsut make sure you park legally, and don’t block driveways and such.

We’ll be there and hope to share some follow up pictures of the days events!
