Old Fourth Ward Fall Festival September 9-10, 2016

August 31, 2016 by Thom Abbott

Old Fourth Ward Fall Festival September 9-10, 2016

Old Fourth Ward Fall Festival If you have not experienced the Lantern Parade, then you MUST put the Old Fourth Ward Fall Festival on your calendar….NOW! (RIGHT NOW…. We’ll wait for you!)

Friday evening, and Saturday, September 9-10 is the Festival! There are workshops to make lanterns both Friday and Saturday, prior to the Lantern Parade on Saturday evening!

This is the second annual festival, which is a free, two day VERY family friendly event with live music, food trucks, lantern making workshops hosted by local artists, a business marketplace and of course, The Lantern Parade!!!!

The festival is held along the Atlanta Beltline Eastside Trail which runs between and connects Midtown, Poncey-Highland, Historic Fourth Ward and Inman Park. Speaking from experience, parking is c-c-crazy and you will want to look for private lots or public parking areas. Click HERE for an Access Map to the Atlanta Beltline.

At the festival you will find portable toilets, concessions from local vendors, trash and recycling stations, ATM’s (IT’S ALL CASH AT THE FESTIVAL!!!) and lots of food and beverages.

To learn more about the Old Fourth Ward Fall Festival, you can find them on Facebook or at the Festival Website.

Looking forward to seeing you on the Beltline!!!

Old Fourth Ward Arts Festival June 25-26, 2016

June 15, 2016 by Thom Abbott

Old Fourth Ward Arts Festival June 25-16, 2016

Old Fourth Ward Park Arts FestivalThe Atlanta Foundation for the Public Spaces is proud to announce the 4th Annual Old Fourth Ward Arts Festival coming up June 25th and 26th in Atlanta, Georgia.

Named “Best New Event” by the Southeast Festivals and Events Association, this two-day arts festival has become the perfect celebration of the artistic innovation that the Old Fourth Ward Neighborhood embodies. Visitors will enjoy art from up to 150 local and regional artists carefully chosen to reflect this historic but progressive neighborhood.

Along with the fine arts and crafts there will be a children’s play area, local food and beverage concessions and live acoustic entertainment. Best of all, it’s entirely free! Historic Fourth Ward Park is just off North Avenue, across from the Ponce City Market. Grab your walking shoes, bike or rollerblades and take the Atlanta BeltLine Eastside Trail to the park! Cyclists can also store their bikes in the additional bike racks provided by the festival.

Of course, the all new and great Ponce City Market is located adjacent to the Old Fourth Ward Park and is a great place for additional dining options, as well as shopping.

For more information about the festival, please visit oldfourthwardartsfestival.com.

Piedmont Park’s Green Market Opens March 19

March 18, 2016 by Thom Abbott

Green Market at Piedmont ParkEverybody loves an outdoor market. Especially with homemade goodies and fresh fruits and veggies! And when it’s right in Midtown Atlanta, well then! You know Spring is here when Piedmont Park’s Green Market is opening Saturday, March 19th!

Piedmont Park’s Green Market Opens March 19

The Piedmont Park Green Market opens from 9am until 1pm, and you are sure to find lots of healthy produce, fresh eggs, grass fed beef and other goodies!

Shopping the Green Market not only gives you a chance to visit Piedmont Park and enjoy the outdoors, it supports the Park and stimulates the local economy. Most farmers at the market have travelled less than 100 miles to get to the market! So come on out and support them!

The Green Market for 2016 will run from March 19th until December 10th…so you’ve got many an opportunity to join in. Remember it is JUST on Saturdays, from 9am-1pm at the 12th Street entrance.

UrbanFronts Galleries Come to Midtown Atlanta

September 27, 2015 by Thom Abbott

When you have empty retail space (ok, that in itself is depressing to have in Midtown…but….) you at least become creative and put temporary things in the space to create visual appeal. Much better than looking at an empty space, right?

Midtown Alliance and The American Institute of Architects have partnered up to create UrbanFronts. As you are out for a walk to or from your office or condo, take a look at these displays.

It appears that the 800 block of Peachtree Street has some excessive open retail space! Always wonder what the benefit is to the landlord/property owner to leave these spaces empty?

We’ve yet to visit them, so we’ll get some photos up as soon as we do!

Midtown Garden Tour Sunday May 17, 2015

May 14, 2015 by Thom Abbott

As you stand on your balcony looking out over Midtown (especially if you are looking East) you see a delightful canopy of trees…something Atlanta strives very hard to preserve. But there is something else amongst those trees…

…beautiful homes, and even smaller condominium communities, sidewalks…and gardens. In fact, LOTS of gardens!

Midtown Garden Tour Sunday May 17, 2015

Midtown Garden Tour May 14, 2015This Sunday, instead of the walk through Piedmont Park, you have an opportunity to view some 36 gardens featuring fountains, pools, and hidden terraces that are open for view. And best of all…it’s FREE!!!!

Take a stroll and see just how unique and special Historic Midtown Atlanta is. This is the area East of Juniper Street over to Monroe, and from 10th Street to Ponce De Leon Avenue. You will be amazed at what you are going to find!!!

Maps for the event and the gardens available to view will be posted on the Facebook Page, Midtown Garden Tour on Sunday morning. Maps can also be obtained at the “tour headquarters” located at 795 Myrtle Street.

Here’s hoping MyMidtownMojo will see you in the garden!

Atlanta Events Calendar – May 2015

May 9, 2015 by Thom Abbott

Group of young friends toasting in a barLet’s face it. When you live in a city (well actually a METRO area) like Atlanta, there is lots and lots….and lots of things to do. Sometimes, the events you want to attend will even overlap…shreek!

I know when I’m searching for things to do, I’m wondering WHAT is there to do or what is going on?

I found an awesome list of events from Eventbrite that certainly seems to have a variety of things going on!

Atlanta Events Calendar – May 2015

I hope you can find a thing or two to do this month!
