What is Midtown Atlanta?

Midtown AtlantaIt’s an elevator ride from home to the street.

It’s waking up with sun streaming in your picture windows

It’s coffee on your balcony as the city wakes up below

It’s lunch at a sidewalk bistro with your OTP friends

It’s a walk to the market for those last minute dinner provisions

It’s dinner with friends and a good bottle of wine

It’s sampling a different restaurant every night of the week.

What Is Midtown Atlanta?

It’s a night of cocktails and conversation in the night life scene

It’s a dramatic sunset across the horizon.

It’s an elevator ride from the street to home. –Thom Abbott

Come explore Midtown Atlanta and find YOUR Midtown Mojo!!!

************************************************************

Located between the commercial district of Downtown Atlanta
and the affluent residential/commercial area of Buckhead to the North,
Midtown Atlanta is the second largest financial district in the city. Midtown
Atlanta contains many of the city’s high rise office and condominium
towers, including such landmark buildings like the Bank of America Plaza, Atlantic
Center, 1180 Peachtree (often called the Symphony Building) and the newly built 1075
Peachtree (12thand Midtown). Notable condominium towers include
Viewpoint Midtown, Spire, Mayfair Renaissance/Tower and Luxe, to name a few.

Midtown Atlanta is often called “the Heart of the Arts” since it is home to the Fox Theater, Woodruff Arts Center, The High Museum, Museum of Modern Art and the 14th Street Playhouse.

People are often confused about the actual boundaries of Midtown and some communities include themselves, when they are far from Midtown. (Hence the new Midtown West area) The official boundaries of the district are the Beltline on the East, North Avenue and Ponce de Leon on the south,
I-75-85 (The Downtown Connector) on the west, and I-85 as it heads north from Brookwood.

Where Is Midtown Atlanta

Midtown’s major streets consist of Spring, West Peachtree, Peachtree, Juniper, Piedmont and Monroe traveling North/ South, and North Avenue, Ponce de Leon, 10th and 14th traveling East/West.
The central portion of Midtown along the North/South streets is lined with high rise condominiums, office towers and several hotels. To the east of Juniper Street starts Historic Midtown, a quiet residential area of single family homes populated by Victorian, American Four Square and craftsman-like bungalows.

Midtown Before

Backstreet 24 Hour Night Club

The southern half of Midtown, between 8th and North Avenue was originally purchased by Richard Peters in 1848 to use the pine forest there for fuel for his downtown flour mill. Over the next 40 years, Peters slowly subdivided sections of these land lots off into what is now Midtown, and built his home there at Peachtree and 4th.
His son, Edward, built his home on one entire block, bounded by North, Myrtle,
Ponce de Leon and Piedmont. Today, Ivy Hall has been restored by the Savannah
College of Art and Design and is listed on the National Register of Historic
Places.

Midtown After

Learn about Midtown AtlantaMidtown today has seen many changes since early 2000 when residents began to return to the city from the “burbs.” This migration encouraged new office towers, followed by condominium residences and new apartment buildings. Along with these additions came restaurants, night life and shopping. The construction of the new 17th Street Bridge connected Midtown with its newest neighbor, Atlantic Station, a multi-billion dollar mixed used development on the site of the former Atlantic Steel Company. Additionally, in 2008-2010, the 14th Street bridge was removed and rebuilt, offering better access to Midtown and Midtown West. in 2015, construction started to improve the “image” of the bridges that cross Peachtree Street on the North end of Midtown and at the South end as Peachtree Street crosses the Downtown Connector again into Downtown Atlanta!

Much of the new development and construction has been a result of the Midtown Blueprint, a product of the Midtown Alliance. This tax improvement district has helped with the transformation of Midtown from empty parking lots and boarded up
buildings to an ideal place for people to live, work and play.

Midtown Transportation

Downtown Connector with Midtown on the Left

Midtown Atlanta is easily accessible by car with The Downtown Connector and its numerous exits into Midtown. Additionally, the area is served my MARTA, Atlanta’s rail transit system, with stops at North Avenue @ West Peachtree, Midtown @ 10th Street and Arts Center (near The High Museum). There is a free shuttle from this station to Atlantic Station, and the “Tech Trolley” runs between the Midtown station and the Georgia Tech campus,
located both in Midtown and Midtown West.

(NOTE: This photo was taken during the re-construction of the 14th Street Bridge across the Downtown Connector!)

Midtown Atlanta ranks as a Very Walkable community, according to Walkscore.com. The Midtown Alliance and the Midtown Improvement District continue to upgrade and enhance the pedestrian and bike friendly character of the neighborhood.

Midtown Atlanta Culture –

Midtown is many things to many people….it’s an urban neighborhood full of life. Nothing seems out of reach when strolling the streets of Midtown. From restaurants to the pharmacy..it’s all here.

Midtown Atlanta Piedmont ParkThe 200 acre Piedmont Park is the heart of Midtown, often called our “backyard.” With places to play, swim, or just relax, this masterpiece, designed by Frederick Olmstead is host to one of the longest running festivals in the South, the Atlanta Dogwood Festival.

Mojo is defined as self-confidence, self-assuredness. A quality, often elusive, that sets someone apart from everyone else. Midtown Mojo is just that.

Come see why so many people have found Midtown Atlanta the perfect place to call home, and why you just might want to find YOUR Midtown Mojo!
