Cameron Diaz movie needs no more tech help

Update: They’re good! No more crew folks needed! Quit emailing them!

Cameron Diaz will be coming to Atlanta later this summer. She’ll be shooting a film, “What To Expect When You’re Expecting,” based on the long, long, longtime parenting bestseller.

The movie, billed as a comedy sort of in the “Love Actually” vein, taking a look at five couples about to become first-time parents, is going to be filming in and around Atlanta and beyond from late July through September.

It’s likely the project will send out the call for extras once things get cranking. The project had asked for resumes from people looking to hire on as crew members. They have all the techies they need now so quit emailing. Their account’s apparently been overloaded.

Diva Dish: Jackson Hurst Sets Up a Scene – Drop Dead Diva's Blog

May 20, 2011 by Thom Abbott

This is just one of the many TV productions that is filmed in the Atlanta area. In particular, DDD’s studio is located WAY out in Peachtree City! But they do offer up some opportunities for locals as extras on the show. It would be great to see the stars try and do some local promo stuff to not only promote the show, but promote the fact that it’s actually filmed in Atlanta, but set in LA. Just want to keep my readers up-to-date on some of the Atlantawood (a.k.a. Hollywood East) happenings!!!

Don’t freak out or anything, our fabulous and faithful “Drop Dead Diva” fans, but have WE got some seriously good behind-the-scenes photos for YOU. As we get closer to the “Drop Dead Diva” Season 3 premiere Sunday, June 19 on Lifetime, we’ve got sneak peek pics and behind-the-scenes looks at the cast and crew working on the show in our Diva Dish series. It’s the next best thing to sneaking on to the set and hiding in Josh Stamberg’s dressing room/napping on a pile of his recently-pressed suits. Not that we would know…

Drop Dead Diva Jackson Hurst Behind-the-Scenes Photos

Today’s Diva Dish comes in Grayson flavor! Check out the above photo of actor Jackson Hurst going over a scene for Season 3. We love seeing him back in the courtroom again looking like the dreamy justice-seeker we fell for in Season 1. Who doesn’t love a heart of gold and a strong jaw?

Stay tuned to the Official “Drop Dead Diva” Facebook and Twitter for more news and scoop from Season 3!

Now it’s your turn to Diva Dish: What was your favorite court case of seasons’ past? What would you like to see in Season 3? If you have questions for “Drop Dead Diva” creator and executive producer, Josh Berman leave them in the comments below!

The 38-year-old actress plays Cindy Green in the movie, which also stars Ron Livingston, Joel Edgerton, Dianne Wiest, and Rosemarie DeWitt.

Synopsis: A childless couple bury a box in their backyard, containing all of their wishes for an infant. Soon, a child is born, though Timothy Green is not all that he appears.

“Drop Dead Diva,” the Lifetime drama series has begun work on their new season which will premiere this summer. The show films in Peachtree City and starts Margaret Cho along with Brooke Elliott, who plays the main character, Jane.

You might recall that last December, I posted that Margaret Cho had moved from uber-suburbiaville Peachtree City to Midtown Atlanta. The show will feature more “dancing dream” sequences with Paula Abdul, Wendy Williams and Margaret who competed on Dancing With The Stars.

I had the pleasure of working on this set numerous times last year, so Mr. Casting Director…I’m waiting for my call!!

Going Hollywood: Olde Town Conyers Readies for movie shoot

February 23, 2011 by Thom Abbott

Atlanta Film Industry

CONYERS — Part of Olde Town Conyers will be closed to traffic next week as taping starts for a movie starring Dolly Parton, Queen Latifah and Kris Kristofferson.

Film crews have already begun setting up for scenes for the upcoming movie “Joyful Noise,” a comedy about a small-town choir group. Alcon Entertainment is producing the film.

Conyers Main Street Manager Monica Coffin advised residents, merchants and visitors to be aware of road closures and traffic delays during the filming.

Preparations for filming began this week and will continue from Tuesday, Feb. 22, through the first part of the day Wednesday. Actual filming will take place from noon to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 23, and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 24. Cleanup will last two hours at the end of each day. Commercial Street will be blocked off both of these days from 6 a.m. until cleanup is completed. Center Street will be closed as needed on both Wednesday and Thursday.

Coffin said there will be intermittent traffic interruptions on Railroad and Green streets.

The parking spaces along Commercial Street from EGABA to the vacant old city hall building beside Brown Wealth Management will be used for trucks hauling needed equipments and supplies for the movie.

Alternative parking for the public will include Bank Street, the city parking lot located at Carter’s Alley, and the parking lot off Travis Street.

“We will be placing signs out to assist visitors with their parking needs,” Coffin said.

She said the film crew is paying the city for costs of off-duty police officers for traffic control during filming and the city’s public works and transportation department for sign needs. Various merchants are also being compensated for building use.

“The citizens of our community will also benefit from this filming project because of the positive impact to our local economy,” Coffin said. “Staff for the project will be staying in our hotels and patronizing our restaurants and retail establishments.”

She cautioned that scheduling could change due to the weather, but there will be an effort to stay on schedule.

Cleanup and restoration efforts will take place Feb. 25 through March 1.

State properties sit idle, awaiting real estate comeback

February 18, 2011 by Thom Abbott

This article appeared in the AJC this morning. Of course, this is nothing new, and is happening in cities and states around the country. But,  I especially liked a comment towards the end of the article:

There has been one positive development as the properties sit idle. To offset maintenance costs, Pullman Yard and the former state farmer’s market have become location shoots for several Hollywood movies, among them “The Blind Side,” “Fast and Furious 5,” “Footloose,” “The Lottery Ticket,” “Ben 10” and “Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son.”

In the past two years, the Georgia Building Authority has generated more than $250,000 from film productions, Pando said.

Yet the State Legislature is talking about changes to the current incentives offer to the ever-growing Georgia Film Industry. Sure, why not take money out of the state pockets. And the people that are employed from this industry!

By Leon Stafford

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

When the state bought the former World of Cola-Cola building four years ago, the plan was to turn it into a museum, but the economic downturn scuttled that idea.

Ten years ago, the old World of Coca-Cola building at Underground Atlanta bustled with schoolchildren. Today it sits empty with only the rumbling of the heating and air conditioning system.

The same happened to plans to tear down the former Georgia Archives building just a few blocks away. The state intended to demolish the 45-year-old structure, but couldn’t afford the $5 million bill.

Similar to most local commercial property owners, the state hasn’t escaped the area’s real estate collapse.
