August 27, 2010 by Thom Abbott

High Five From Atlanta Intown Newspaper!

I’ve got creative ideas, don’t even THINK for a minute I don’t!!!! It’s the time to make them all happen that always gets me!

So when somebody does it right, I say, “Hey, I’ll just pass that along!” And so here it is….

High Five Atlanta Intown NewspaperAtlanta Intown Newspaper has now started a weekly column, “High Five” What to Do This Weekend.” They will feature five events going on in the Intown Atlanta neighborhoods I do so love to hang out in.

Here is a link to this week’s High Five, which features:

  • Tears For Fears Concert at Chastain Park
  • German Bierfest at Woodruff Park
  • Morningside Summer Block Party (looking like my Favorite pick)
  • Festival Peachtree Latino at Underground Atlanta
  • Grant Park Summer Shade Festival

There are links to each of these events in the Atlanta Intown article!

Hope I see you out and about this weekend!

For The Love of A Dog

August 25, 2010 by Thom Abbott

August 8, 2016 —

I’m going through some old posts on my site. Ironically, this one was published by me this very month, only SIX years ago. Simply amazing how the story is still just as strong now as it was then.

For The Love of a Dog

If ONLY people could have this kind of unconditional love and respect for one another.

Makes me think of the person on the other end of the phone when you call a lender and they

deny your short sale or tell you your home is on it’s way to foreclosure…..

But more than that, it’s just about unconditional love….

Nero...a.k.a "PCP" and "King Pooh Head"
Nero…a.k.a “PCP” and “King Pooh Head”

We were given:

Two hands to hold.

To legs to walk.

Two eyes to see.

Two ears to listen.

But why only one heart?

Because the other was given to someone else.

For us to find.

Viewpoint Midtown Atlanta. Going, Going, Almost!

August 21, 2010 by Thom Abbott

Viewpoint Midtown Atlanta. Going, Going, Almost!

Viewpoint Midtown Atlanta Ribbon CuttingIf you know me, you know I’ve had a long standing love affair with Viewpoint Midtown since the building first opened in June, 2007.  Heck, it was even my clients, Don Jones and Peggy Denby that cut the ribbon for the grand opening event!

So, it’s also no surprise that this Midtown community is close to being gone! I mean, I can probably count on two hands the number of 2 bedroom homes that remain! What does that mean for you the Midtown Atlanta condo shopper? Well, you don’t have much left to choose from (I still have not seen a bad floor plan –the 11th floor home they have is like living in a garden since it looks out ON the unique Zen Garden of the 11th floor) and there are some great prices to be had!

With interest rates at an all time, maybe never again in our lifetime low, if you are thinking about that condo purchase, now just could be the time to act!  Also, if you perfer new construction over a re-sale condo, the options are getting pretty limited! I’d love to represent you in your Viewpoint Midtown Atlanta purchase! Just give me a call and lets get over to see everything Viewpoint Midtown has to offer you!

Hot Time In The City! Tips For Keeping Your Cool Inside!

August 14, 2010 by Thom Abbott

Hot Time In The City (or Country) — Tips For Keeping Your Cool!

Yep. We have certainly been living up to our nickname here in Atlanta this summer…..HOTLANTA! Whew! 90 something everyday! I walk out at 7am on my way to my Midtown Atlanta office and think, “Man, can’t it just stay THIS temperature for the rest of the day?”  It doesn’t happen. So, here’s a few tips for YOU to keep you cool in the remaining hot days of the summer.

* Set your thermostat higher when away at work, or away on vacation. About 5 degrees will do it.

* Set your thermostat at 78 degrees or higher and forget it! By raising your temperature you could save about a $100 on your summer power bills

HVAC Repair* Change your air conditioning filter. Whether you live in an older house in Historic Midtown Atlanta, or a new condominium, you’d be amazed at how dirty those guys get. And dirty means less efficiency, and making your a/c work harder. Set yourself a reminder on your calendar.

* Check your doors and windows for leaks. For our condo dwellers, newer buildings are pretty tight, but your older buildings might not be so. If you have cobwebs or high levels of dust, you probably have air leaks. (Shoot, I thought that was just from my extreme desire NOT to do house cleaning….)

* If in a single family home, be sure to make sure your outdoor condenser can “breathe” and is not covered up by landscape shrubs

*Have your system regularly serviced (usually spring and fall) to keep it at its peak performance. In Midtown Atlanta, we condo dwellers often forget that we have a unit somewhere (like maybe on the roof) that should be serviced. Of course this requires a bit of extra planning to the building maintenance people can get your a/c man on the roof.

Just a few cool tips to keep you cool in these remaining Dog Days of Summer in Midtown Atlanta!

Midtown Atlanta Streets to Get Make Over

August 13, 2010 by Thom Abbott

Midtown Atlanta Streets to Get Make Over

14th and Crescent StreetMidtown Alliance announced construction will begin August 1 on Crescent Avenue in Midtown Atlanta to improve sidewalks, add lights, trees and parallel parking. Once that portion is completed, they will commence the 14th Street Streetscape from West Peachtree all the way to Piedmont Park.

Construction funds for the project were provided from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. It was designed to enhance the pedestrian environment, improve public safety, and achieve a better balance between accommodating large volumes of vehicular traffic and creating a more livable urban environment. Over the last eight years, the Midtown Alliance Cityscapes Program has completed similar improvements along Peachtree Street, WestPeachtree Street, Piedmont Avenue and 14th Street (between Fowler and West Peachtree Streets).

Midtown Atlanta has been working to improve its walkability and mobility with projects that provide wider sidewalks, enhanced street and sidewalk lighting, new landscaping, granite curbing colored accent pavers, trash receptacles (AMEN AMEN!!!) and bike racks among other improvements.

Sadly, the announcement also mentions that a number of exiting trees will have to be removed on 14th Street due to utility conflicts and to allow for changes in the street function. This means some pretty big trees will probably be giving their lives up for progress. Bummer.  However, some 70 new Elm trees will be installed every 30 feet on either side of the street the entire length of the project. They will be keeping Midtown Atlanta green, but it might be a few years before the trees look anything like they currently do on 14th Street, depending on which ones come down…

Constructi0n will be intense, so if you are in this area of Midtown Atlanta, please watch out. Of course we’ll be watching this program very closely as our office is on 14th Street, and we’ve got some pretty big trees right in front of our office windows! I wonder if they will escape the chain saw??

Here’s a quick look at what Crescent Avenue currently looks like….I’ll get some before pictures of 14th Street so we can all see the changes!
