CeeLo Green Launches NonProfit The Greenhouse Foundation

September 2, 2012 by Thom Abbott

Picked up a news worthy item from the Atlanta Business Chronicle this morning. CeeLo Green has launched a new nonprofit, The Greenhouse Foundation earlier this month at the Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy in Atlanta Georgia.

The Greenhouse Foundation

The Foundation’s website appears to need more construction, but does cite the mission of The Foundation as “To build a more compassionate, understanding, active, efficient, dedicated and disciplined team capable of providing excellent, sustainable Humanitarian Service to the under privileged of our society specially at grass-root level.”

It’s always good to see those that have become successful in the entertainment business, come back and give back to the community. Thanks to CeeLo for coming back to ATL!

Owen Wilson-Vince Vaughn movie “The Internship” to film at Georgia Tech | The Buzz

July 27, 2012 by Thom Abbott

See on Scoop.it – Midtown Atlanta Conversations and Condos

Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn’s movie “The Internship” now shooting in Atlanta will soon be filming at Georgia Tech, the college web site reports.

The movie, which also has filmed scenes downtown and in Midtown, is a comedy about guys who get downsized and then start their careers over at the bottom rung. They evidently make the most of their downtime along the way; we’ve seen casting calls looking for extras for a “Gentlemen’s Club” scene this week.

Anyway, the Georgia Tech notice says “Filming will take place at the following locations: Campus Recreation Center, Ford Environmental Science and Technology Building, G. Wayne Clough Undergraduate Learning Commons, Klaus Advanced Computing Building, Leadership Challenge Course, Noonan Courtyard and the Marcus Nanotechnology Building.”

What To Expect When You Are Expecting | Movie Trailer –Filmed in Midtown Atlanta

April 29, 2012 by Thom Abbott

The movie filming business is hopping in Atlanta! You never know who you will see and when!!

Just this past week, I saw Kevin Bacon in a SmartCar in Buckhead! (Thanks Kevin for going green and not hauling around in a big Surburban….although I’d LOVE to have one!) Anyway….

What To Expect When You Are Expecting was filmed here in Atlanta  last summer, and  the Lionsgate film was shot at various locations around the Midtown area including Piedmont Park and Smith’s Olde Bar. The film, which stars Jennifer Lopez, Elizabeth Banks, Dennis Quaid, Cameron Diaz, Chris Rock and Anna Kendrick among others, is based loosely on the popular pregnancy manual, “What to Expect When You’re Expecting.”

What To Expect When You Are Expecting Filmed in Midtown Atlanta

The movie features four couples who are all expecting children and how they deal with the upcoming additions to their families.

The trailer cannot be embeded here, so here is a link to What To Expect When You Are Expecting! You’ll see lots of the Midtown skyline in the background, and Piedmont Park!

Georgia enticing film production companies with tax incentive credit

April 4, 2012 by Thom Abbott

Via Scoop.it – Georgia Film & TV

Money talks and Georgia aims to continue throwing it around to Hollywood in order to keep actors and moviemaking within the Peach State. In fact, Georgia is one of the leading states in the country when it comes to enticing film production companies to park their celebrity trailers on red clay soil, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

That’s because the state doesn’t have a cap limiting the dollar amount a production company can save through its generous tax credits. And legislators expect Gov. Nathan Deal to sign a bill that will ensure those credits stay that way.

Queen Latifah May Move Operations from Atlanta to MiamiVia Scoop.it – Georgia Film & TV

Queen Latifah — entertainment mogul, young Oprah, and all-around bad mothereffer — has long been a fan of Miami….and may move her base of operations to Miami from Atlanta! I wonder if anyone from the ATL is trying to KEEP her here with some tax incentives of our own? Doubt it!

Atlanta Film Studios Paulding County Partners With Paskal Lighting | Below the Line

February 3, 2012 by Thom Abbott

AFSPC Opens in Paulding CountyVia Scoop.it – Georgia Film & TV

A continued sign of the ever increasing Georgia Film and TV industry in the Atlanta area! This is good news for the economy of Atlanta…well sort of! This facility is located some 24 MILES from Atlanta in Paulding County. This is actually a new facility that was constructed as part of Paulding County’s drive for economic development. Other productions that film in the Atlanta area like  Vampire Diaries in Decatur, and Drop Dead Diva film in unused  warehoue space and an airport hanger respectively.

The map below will give you an idea of how far out this facility is located, and NOT next to any major freeways. If you are ever working as an actor or an extra at this facility with a 7am call time, you will be up at 3am to get there on time! Nonetheless, another sign of Georgia Film and TV growing!
