May 19, 2012 by Thom Abbott

Yes….and your first question SHOULD be, “What the h-ll is a DDI? Well, you will soon find out as they construct a DDI at I-285 and Ashford-Dunwoody Road…a.k.a. The Perimeter.

To sprawl or not to sprawl? A Story about the Transportation Tax Vote

May 17, 2012 by Thom Abbott

Atlanta Transportation Tax VoteSee on Scoop.it – Other Atlanta News Events

In this article by Thomas Wheatley from Creative Loafing, he brings up some very, very interesting points. This transportation tax will be voted on in July, and when you look at the overall measure and how much money is still being pumped into road construction…..”For five years I’ve been practically begging to pay an extra tax to build sorely needed transit in metro Atlanta. Now that it’s a possibility, I wonder if the measure we’re being asked to consider this summer is really such a good idea.”

Reynolds Plantation purchase part of longterm plan for MetLife and Daniel Realty

May 13, 2012 by Thom Abbott

See on Scoop.it – Other Atlanta News Events

Reynolds Plantation is many things – high-end homes, top-flight golf, a secluded resort. But there’s one thing Robert Merck says it is not: a quick flip. Midtown Atlanta real estate company Daniel Realty will be involved in the project!

Merck, senior managing director and head of real estate investments for MetLife, which is under contract to buy the Lake Oconee community, said in an interview Friday with The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that New York-based MetLife sees its acquisition of the community 80 miles east of Atlanta as a long-term investment.

“I don’t think there are many assets in the country that are comparable to Reynolds,” said Merck, whose company entered the Reynolds Plantation sweepstakes only about two months ago.

MetLife announced on Wednesday it had an agreement to acquire the struggling Reynolds Plantation, six golf courses, four marinas, nearly 5,000 acres of undeveloped land and the Ritz-Carlton Lodge at Lake Oconee.

Birmingham-based Daniel Corp. will oversee Reynolds Plantation. Daniel and MetLife, which have a 25-year relationship, are partners on 12th & Midtown, a complex of office, retail, condos and a hotel near Peachtree and 12th streets.

Americana in Atlanta — A trip to a Farm and We Never Left The City!

May 9, 2012 by Thom Abbott

John Maloney CollectionThis past weekend, I had the opportunity to see the private collection of John Maloney. John’s been collecting a variety of thing, including a beauty of a ride in a 1929 Model A! Did you know they sold for around $400 then? And that was one heck of a lot of money in 1929!

John has a love for machinery and especially tractors. The John Deere examples he has are simply amazing, and look like they must have the day the left the John Deere dealer!

Enjoy the show!
