Mercedes Benz Selects Sandy Springs Site for 12-Acre Campus

February 23, 2015 by Thom Abbott

Mercedes Benz Selects Sandy Springs Site for 12-Acre Campus

Mercedes Benz Relocates to AtlantaMercedes Benz, the well-known German luxury auto maker has selected a site in Sandy Springs off of Abernathy Road and GA400 as the site for their new Atlanta headquarters.

The land is part of two larger tracts that straddle Abernathy road and Glenridge Road. According to the Atlanta Business Chronicle, both tracts are being purchased by Ashton Woods Homes, and they will in turn sell back the 12 acre parcel to Mercedes. It’s a headquarters district for sure….Mercedes Benz neighbors include United Parcel Service and Newell Rubbermaid. Mercedes will locate on the southern side of Abernathy Road.

Mercedes Benz Atlanta Headquarters Sandy Springs

If they were looking for a location close to MARTA for that “techy, urban” kind of employee, they have a stretch with this site. Abernathy Road is a busy, busy automobile street, and there are no sidewalks on the South side of Abernathy leading to the MARTA station at Mt. Vernon Highway and Perimeter Center Parkway. Not to mention that walk goes along side a stretch of undeveloped land (nothing exciting to engage the pedestrian there….) and then crossing Peachtree Dunwoody Road to get to the station Entrance.  Here is a map indicating the location of the campus and the MARTA station.

Mercedes Benz and MARTA

Driving? Abernathy road/GA400 is another ‘ground zero” for traffic bottle necks, and with the pending construction/re-design of the GA400 and I-285 Interchange just to the south of here….well, maybe they can grab an extra coffee and if they have a company Mercedes…just sit back..and wait.

But, for those Mercedes Benz employees that are inclined to want that urban life style, we can help them find a great location in Midtown Atlanta for condominium living, and near the Buckhead MARTA station Skyhouse Buckhead and Cyan are luxury apartment options. Nearby 10 Terminus and Realm Condominiums are options here as well.

We look forward to helping Mercedes Benz employees feel right at home in Midtown Atlanta and beyond.

Top 10 School Districts in Atlanta GA

January 10, 2015 by Thom Abbott

Metro Atlanta Top 10 Schools As a real estate broker, I’m often asked about schools. Since I don’t have children (and even if I did) I always advise my clients to do their own research into schools. What may be important to one parent, may not be important to the next, right?

Top 10 School Districts in Atlanta GA

But we found a source in Niche.com and wanted to share it. Niche is transforming the way people make big life decisions. By providing reviews and insight from everyday experts, they make choosing a neighborhood, college, or K-12 school a more transparent process. Founded in 2002 by Carnegie Mellon University students as CollegeProwler.com, they have since grown into one of the largest content startups in the country. Obsessed with providing students, families, and professionals with best-in-class content and deep insight into big life decisions, every year, they help millions of people find their niche and thrive within it.

So exactly WHAT is the Niche School District Ranking Methodology?

  • Students are very happy with their experience in all aspects including academics, teachers, health, safety, resources, facilities, extracurriculars, sports, and fitness;
  • District schools are exceptional academic institutions in terms of teachers, students, resources for learning, and student outcomes;
  • District schools are made up of a diverse population and fosters an accepting, positive school culture;
  • Students are actively involved in a variety of extracurriculars and sports the district offers.

So……

Top 10 School Districts in Atlanta GA

In the essence of full disclosure, we took this list right from the Niche.com website…so a couple of the school districts are a stretch to be called “Metro Atlanta” but we wanted to list them as they were on their site!

  1. Top 10 Schools Metro AtlantaBuford City Schools
  2. Decatur City Schools
  3. Oconee County Schools
  4. Forsyth County Schools
  5. Bremen City Schools
  6. Gwinnett County Schools
  7. Carrollton City Schools
  8. Morgan County Schools
  9. Marietta City Schools
  10. Cherokee County Schools
  11. Fayette County Schools
  12. Cobb County Schools
  13. Cartersville City Schools
  14. Fulton County Schools

Again, we stress this information comes from Niche.com, and we are simply sharing it. Each parent and student should look at, and do their own research and investigation as to which school system is best for them.

As you look at this list, you can quickly see why the Metro Atlanta suburbs sprawl as families look to live in good school systems, and most of those circle the City of Atlanta!

Electric Car Ride And Drive Midtown Atlanta November 22 10-2pm

November 19, 2014 by Thom Abbott

Nissan LeafEver wondered if the hype about an electric call is all it’s….well hyped up to be?

Is an electric car an option for you? How do you charge them? How do they drive?

Hey Midtown Atlanta, hows about an Electric Car Ride and Drive?

This Saturday, November 22, from 10am – 2pm you can stop by the Atlanta Civic Center, at 395 Piedmont Avenue (corner of Ralph McGill Blvd and Piedmont Avenue and find out for yourself!

Electric Car Ride And Drive Midtown Atlanta

The event will have electric cars from BMW, Chevrolet, Nissan and Tesla! You will be able to learn more about the technology, finance and lease options, and current tax credits and dealer incentives. And my all important question, How to get a charging station installed at home.

Back in my days on the Midtown Neighbors’ Association Board of Directors, as all the new condo buildings were being developed, the Design Review Committee (DRC) of the Midtown Alliance would waive the requirement for developers to install electric car charging stations. They were not at all that popular in 2005-2009…..and now here we are! I’ll be doing a follow up on condo buildings and looking to see if the Board’s have any plans to go back and install these charging systems, or if the residents are even asking for them.

Hope to see you” on the road” at the Civic Center on Saturday for the Electric Car Ride and Drive!

Super Shuttle Arrives in Midtown Atlanta

November 15, 2014 by Thom Abbott

Super Shuttle Midtown AtlantaWe all know that living in Midtown Atlanta and traveling are a nice combination! Why? Well first off, we have THREE MARTA stations to pick from to use for mass transit to the Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson International Airport. (Think we can make that name any longer?)

But, not everyone wants  to take the train. Maybe you are leaving early, early, or coming in late, late. Well now you will have another shuttle service option with the Atlanta arrival of Super Shuttle. The service will start on Monday, November 17 and will service Downtown, Midtown and Buckhead initially. (Sorry you OTP peeps….out of luck…for now.)

A check of the website shows an Airport-to-Midtown one way fare at $18.50. That is for a “shared-ride van” which means there could be stops before you get to your Midtown Atlanta condo. When I used to travel on business and did not need or want a rental car, I used Super Shuttle and it always worked well.

It just nice to know you have options, from MARTA, Uber and Super Shuttle to get to the airport. Oh, and there is a cab…..

Atlanta Things To See and Do | Atlanta’s Best Hiking Trails

November 9, 2014 by Thom Abbott

Deep Creek Range Special Events FacilityMidtown Atlanta is an awesome place to live and play! You know how much I love showing and helping people call it home! But we (myself would be at the TOP of the list) often overlook what there can be to see and do when we get out of our comfort zone. It might be Midtown Atlanta, or maybe it’s that fear of crossing that line called OTP –Outside The Perimeter!

This morning, a friend on Facebook posted a question about places to go hiking, without the couple hour drive to the North Georgia Mountains. And what a find, I did find!

Atlanta’s Best Hiking Trails

First off, that photo is NOT from one of these locations, but from my home state of Montana! But, one of the answers on this person’s Facebook wall was a link to a site called Atlanta Trails! Like, WOW…who knew about this? Ok I’m sure some of you outdoorsies types did, but I did not! But a particular page on the site had me most intrigued…and amazed at some of the places that are probably 30 minutes from the comfort of your Midtown condo!

The Top 10 Favorite Hikes

I’m really amazed at some of these places. Now, I’ve got some knee issues so I’m not sure how viable some of these would be for me, but I was especially intrigued by #2 Arabia Mountain Top Trail! I mean, 23 miles and 30 minutes from the urban core of Atlanta and you find this? WOW!

Arabia Mountain map

Let’s just say, you’ll be seeing a blog post with some photos of this one, as I hope to enjoy it in the next few days!

So, hey…when you are sitting in your condo, bored and don’t know what to do….get out and experience nature and it’s wonders just 30 minutes from your parking garage!

Yes, Music Midtown 2014 Has Arrived!

September 18, 2014 by Thom Abbott

Concert Photo Old TimeDespite the fact that the Midtown Neighbors’ Association voted it down….Music Midtown 2014 arrives in Midtown Atlanta at Piedmont Park this weekend.

For attendees that may not understand that position, just understand what it would be like if you had thousands upon thousands of people all over YOUR neighborhood for 3 days. One would guess you might not like that.

The biggest thing to remember if you are coming from ANYWHERE in Atlanta and you have access to MARTA or can drive to a MARTA station…..TAKE MARTA TO THE EVENT!! It’s an easy walk from the Midtown station on 10th Street to the Park.

If you are heading to the festival  here are some tips to help you get around!

Where to get in:

There will be five entrances into the festival grounds:

• The Charles Allen Gate, located at the corner of 10th Street and Charles Allen Drive.

• The Park Drive/Bridge Gate is available to attendees coming from Monroe and Park drives.

• The Lakeside Gate is accessible at the 14th Street entrance to the park or by Magnolia Hall.

• The 10th Street Gate, located across from Grady High School.

• The 12th Street Gate, located at 12th Street and Piedmont Avenue.

Music Midtown 2014 ticket sales will begin on-site at 2 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. Saturday at Box Office Central located at 10th Street and Charles Allen Drive as well as at 12th Street and the Greystone box office on Piedmont Avenue. Cost is $135 for a two-day general admission pass and $500 for VIP. Gates open at 4 p.m. Friday and noon Saturday.

Re-entry will be permitted, but you must have your ticket “scanned out” when exiting. You must use the same ticket to gain re-entry onto the festival grounds.

Hungry? No Problem!  Food trucks and concessions will be spread throughout Piedmont Park. There will be plenty of beverage choices of the adult and non-adult variety. Also, ATMs will be set up around the park.

Try. Try and respect the neighborhood you are in and put your trash where it belongs and if you need to “relieve yourself” do so in a porta potty!
