West Midtown Market | Sunday, December 8, 2013 11AM-7PM

November 28, 2013 by Thom Abbott

West Midtown Market December 8 2013One of the fun things of any city you live in…is the local activities that happen all around you. From festivals to street markets, there is always something happening in your city…and in Midtown Atlanta!

West Midtown Market | Sunday, December 8, 2013 11AM-7PM

A week from this Sunday, mark your calendar for the West Midtown Market at 1000 Marietta Street. This is one of those infamous “pop-up markets” where an organizer brings together local merchants into some unused space for a day of commerce! It’s really pretty cool stuff!

The West Midtown Market website has links to all the merchants that will be featured, as well as some restaurants that will be offering up some specials as well. I’ve been meaning to get to the 5 Seasons Brewery location in West Midtown….like forever! (I’ve been to the Prado location in Sandy Springs!) Now, I’ve got a double reason to go!

West Midtown is creating its own spice….with the warehouse-type space available, and numerous new restaurants as well as totally cool living options like White Provision...it’s a part of Atlanta you need to check out! Keep in mind, you a hop, skip and a jump from IKEA and Atlantic Station to keep your holiday shopping moving right along!

Hope we see you there!

Places To Run In Midtown Atlanta | Atlanta Beltline Eastside 10K December 7, 2013

November 27, 2013 by Thom Abbott

Places To Run In Midtown AtlantaIf you are a runner (unfortunately, feet and knee issues keep me from this exercise/sport) you may be looking for new and interesting places to run in Midtown Atlanta.  Let’s take a look at Places To Run In Midtown Atlanta!

Some of you choose to just take to the streets, or of course the road and Active Oval of Piedmont Park. But there are more organized options for you dedicated runners!

Atlanta Beltline Eastside 10K — December 7, 2013

The race will start off from the Stoveworks at 112 Krog Street. After a quick jog onto Irwin Street, you will be on the Eastside Trail of the Atlanta Beltline. Runners will see exciting parts of the Atlanta Beltline like the new Historic Fourth Ward Park and Skatepark, get some great city views of downtown and Midtown Atlanta, travel an off-road stretch of the Atlanta BeltLine corridor, and enjoy a jaunt through Piedmont Park.

There is also some fun for the college alumni and neighborhood associations. Tailgate and Neighborhood Challenges have been set up as well. You can learn more about those here.

Runners may register HERE, and the fee is currently $40.

Enjoy a great run, and check out the Atlanta Beltline Eastside Trail!

Midtown Atlanta — Best Neighborhoods To Live In –Creative Loafing

September 21, 2013 by Thom Abbott

Atlanta Condo Prices Rise 23 Percent
Midtown Atlanta Skyline

Well, this comes as no surprise to me. I’ve been selling the Midtown Atlanta lifestyle for some 9 years now. I’ve seen most of the condominium buildings I sell in every day rise from vacant lots and old buildings. So, to hear that Creative Loafing has named Midtown Atlanta Best Neighborhood to Live in Without a Car…well I would expect nothing less.

That said, if you do have a car, you can still live in Midtown! You may only need it for getting to and from work if you work elsewhere in the city. Living in Midtown has great traffic advantages as most of the time, and directions, you are going against the traffic flow. As the suburbanites pour into the Midtown and Downtown office buildings, you can easily head in the opposite direction. But once you are home, toss the keys in the bowl (we all have a bowl for our keys by the door, right?) and let your Nike’s do the walking.

Creative Loafing says, “This sky-high ‘hood boasts all you need for transit-/walk-/bike-friendly living: a Publix to keep your stomach full and a smorgasbord of bars to keep your liver constantly under attack; three convenient MARTA rail stops (North Avenue, Midtown, Arts Center); nearby culture at the Woodruff Arts Center and Fox Theatre, among other spots; and one of the city’s best greenspaces, Piedmont Park.

Exciting things keep coming to Midtown Atlanta as the not-to-distant opening of Ponce City Market comes, as well as the opening of additional parts of the Atlanta Beltline, which crosses Midtown at Piedmont Park and again over at the Ponce City Market and Old Fourth Ward Park.

Come on down! Experience urban living like it was meant to be. Experience Midtown Atlanta!

Midtown Buzz Mobile Hackathon | September 13-14, 2013

September 3, 2013 by Thom Abbott

Midtwon Buzz Hackathon September 13-14 2013You sort of expect “techie things” from Midtown, right?

I mean, after all, we are the home to Georgia Tech…and all kinds of cool stuff comes out of Georgia Tech.

So, why not have somebody create some really cool apps for your phone to help you live, work and enjoy Midtown Atlanta? Ahhhh….

Midtown Buzz Mobile Hackathon September 13-14, 2013 at Hypeotamus

Besides having easy-to-use apps to make Midtown Atlanta an even better place to live, work, and play, should we not  build them and win some really cool prizes at the same time?

The Midtown Buzz Mobile Hackathon is your chance to build cool apps and compete to win a free stay at the newly renovated Hyatt Midtown, gift certificates to amazing Midtown restaurants, and other goodies. Three prize categories await you:

  1. Wayfinder – enhance the visitor experience in Midtown as they live, work and play. What are some cool local sites, shops, tours, and other things that make Midtown unique?
  2. Transportation – make it easeir to travel around Midtown, by foot, bike, or automobile. Where are the bike racks?  What is my easiest route through the MARTA stations? What are my parking options?
  3. Wildcard – propose your own idea or grab some from the idea bank.

Midtown Alliance, Georgia Tech’s Institute for People and Technology, and Hypepotamus are proud to announce the Midtown Buzz Mobile Hackathon, the latest in their collaborative initiative to expand and strengthen Midtown’s flourishing Innovation District.

The Midtown Buzz Mobile Hackathon is the launch event of a six-month initiative to build connected mobile applications to improve and enhance the Midtown experience. All the teams participating (and new teams who emerge along the way) will have the chance to continue their work after the launch hackathon to vie for an even bigger prizes to be awarded in January to those who successfully release their apps to the market.

I might just have to stop in on this event to see who is there, and what comes out of it!

MARTA Eyes Major Expansion on 400 North

August 30, 2013 by Thom Abbott

MARTA Fare Increase October 1, 2011Having just been in and around Atlanta today conducting real estate business, there is that seven-letter word that comes to mind…traffic.

It’s pretty hard to escape it in Atlanta. A major metropolitan area that has seen absolutely NO transit construction in some 13 years, and hardy any highway construction to help with our long standing love affair with our automobiles. Mind you, that love affair is caused by our urban sprawl and the need to get from Point A to Point B. And not any other options that the car. But could that be about to change?

MARTA Eyes Major Expansion on 400 North

It was reported in the Atlanta Business Chronicle today that MARTA is planning to extend transit service North, up the Georgia 400 corridor, with as many as 6 additional stations. ( I can hear people in Forsyth County doing the Happy Dance, and others going…there goes our quality of life!)

MARTA would look at using some 11.9 miles of existing right-of-way along GA400 from the existing  end of the line North Springs station in Dunwoody all the way to Windward Parkway in Alpharetta. Options range from heavy rail(what the current MARTA system is) to light rail or bus rapid transit.

The project would be the first expansion of the MARTA system since the Sandy Springs and North Springs stations opened in 2000, also on the Georgia 400 corridor.

Can you imagine enjoying the urban, walkable life style of Midtown Atlanta and be able to take a train to work in Alpharetta? Mind you, there will be some transfer involved as I would guess the stations will not be close to ALL the office complexes that have sprung up in that area over the years.

Let’s see what’s announced later next month!
