Dekalb County Sheriff’s Fundraiser – November 18, 2011 – Tin Roof Cantina

November 16, 2011 by Thom Abbott

Tin Roof CantinaI don’t know about you, but I certainly have very high admiration for someone who is willing to get up every day and put their life in danger so that I may NOT be in danger. That takes some serious @*#*@! I know I could not do it.

So, to know there is some small part I can do to make that job easier is a cool thing to me. Sadly, if we did not have so much government waste, we could probably pay for equipment like this.

But so be it. This Friday, drop by the Tin Roof Cantina (just off of Druid Hills Road at 2591 Briarcliff Road) and join in this event to raise money and purchase additional bullet-proof vests for officers.

Starts at 5pm. Hey, you know how bad Friday rush hour can be!!! Just swing in here and hang out for a while. Of course, be responsible when you drink and drive!

The Toy Party December 4, 2011 For The Kid In All Of Us

November 11, 2011 by Thom Abbott

Thomas Ramon Realty and The 2011 Toy Party

Whether we like it or not…the Holiday Party season is about to begin! And in Atlanta, the premier party of them all certainly IS, For The Kid In All of Us –The Toy Party, December 4, 2011.

If you have the holiday blues, or can’t find your holiday mojo, then this is the party to attend! Gay, straight or otherwise, break out your festive attire, bring an unwrapped toy and enjoy!

I’m not sure how many thousands this party draws, but the mountain of toys left at the end of the night is sure to tug on your heart, knowing that less fortunate children around Atlanta will have a better Christmas Eve/Morning!

I’ve missed a couple years, but this will not be one of them! I’m ready for some holiday chipper and cheer! Let the bells ring!

Check out the video below for a few pictures of past Toy Parties!

Do You Have Bats in Your Belfry?

November 7, 2011 by Thom Abbott

Atlanta GA Homes For SaleOr maybe squirrels in your storage? If you live in Atlanta, you know we have our fair share of varmints ranging from those oh to cute looking squirrels to possums, snakes and bees! Oh yeah!

While 99% of these animals may not be a nusiance to condo dwellers (depending on whether you live in a mid-rise or high-rise building, they certainly can present problems for the rest of us!

If you think you’ve got some of these pests, you are wise to seek the help of a professional company to help in capturing them. This post was inspired by a Twitter follower I picked up this morning, Southern Wildlife Management. Now, I’ve never worked with these people, so I’m not endorsing them specifically, but they would certainly be one place to start to look for help with helping your varmints pack up and move on!

Dennis Quaid Lists Montana Ranch For Sale at $14M

October 24, 2011 by Thom Abbott

Dennis QuaidIt seems that actor Dennis Quaid has taken a liking to surfing, and would rather have a ranch in Hawaii than in Montana. (Yes there ARE ranches in Hawaii!) So, he has listed his Montana spread for a cool $14,000,000. That’s some cattle for you!

Seriously, my Montana property is located North of Quaid’s ranch in the ever pristine Paradise Valley, which runs from the small town of Livingston, South to Gardiner and the North Entrance to Yellowstone National Park. The wide valley is home to many famous Hollywood types, including Jeff and Susan Bridges. (Their ranch actually borders my land!) Home Depot Founder and Atlanta Falcon’s owner Arthur Blank owns a huge rance there as well.

Dennis Quaid Montana RanchListed by Glaicer Sotheby’s International, the ranch consists of 418 acres with the main home of 5,200 sq. ft was desigend by Frank Cikan and was featured in Architectural Digest in 2003. It overlooks Six Mile Creek and the Absaroka Mountain Range. There area also 4 additional “guest houses” (bigger than what most of us live in!) a ranch manager’s home and various barns and corrals for horses.

Home to the “Hollywood Legends” Warren Oates, Sam Peckinpah and Dennis Quaid, for over 30 years, the ranch borders the Gallatin National Forest.

The ranch is located about 10 minutes from Historic Chico Hot Springs Resort and Spa with its aclaimed Chico Dining Room and about 30 minutes from the aforementioned Livingston. Bozeman’s Gallatin Field is located less that 2 hours drive, and is served by Delta , Frontier, and  United Air Lines. The airport even has garages for rent to store your Suburban (a MUST have and the Montana vehicle of choice) so you can get to and from the airport.

Atlantans who wonder who Dennis Quaid is will be able to see him in the upcoming film, What to Expect When You Are Expecting which just wrapped filming in Atlanta and also stars Cameron Diaz and Jennifer Lopez.

Here are a couple photographs of the ranch, compliments of Glaicer Sotheby’s International.

Plumbing Systems — Something To Think About

October 21, 2011 by Thom Abbott

Intown Atlanta Real EstateWater is a very important part of our every day lives. Without it, we simply could not, would not exist. Period. And as much as we need water to survive, water can also cause some pretty extensive damage. Be it outside from a flood or rain storm or inside in the form of a leaking or even worse, broken pipe.

I find that many residents who live in a condominium kinda don’t think about the systems in their home. They seem to think because they pay this monthly HOA fee, that all is well. Sadly, nothing could be further from the truth. As a condominium owner (and really as a tenant as well) you are responsible from the exterior walls in. So, if your tub leaks, or your toilet leaks or your sink leaks, you are not only going to have to fix YOUR home, but you might be fixing your neighbors’ home as well. Next to a fire, water is the worst enemy for damage in a condominium building.

Drain piles can clog and valves and fittings develop leaks. Small leaks usually grow and can cause major water damage in your home. Fixing leaks right away and keeping an eye and ear out for them is critical.

Intown Atlanta Real EstateClean Your Drains
You can clean your drains in your sinks and tub by simply running hot water and then pouring a handful or so of baking soda down each of them. Let the hot water run for a few minutes and then repeat the procedure. This helps remove grease and sediments that buildup over time in your pipes. You may want to do this a couple of times a year.

Visual Inspections
Visually inspecting for leaks regularly is important. You can do this by checking under sinks and around toilets. Look for signs of moisture and leaks, rust or lime deposits (white) which are early signs of trouble coming.

Inspect around your toilet carefully looking for cracks in the toilet where it is bolted to the floor. Even a hairline crack can mean a leak is happening or developing. Look around the inlet pipes and on the tank bottom as well.

Drippy faucets and shower heads and toilet flush valves that operate poorly should be changed or fixed.

You’ve heard the old saying, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” Spend a few moments in your Midtown Atlanta condominium or home and look for these signs before you have a bigger problem.
