Lifetime’s ‘Steel Magnolias’ Adaptation Casts Queen Latifah – Production in Atlanta Begins in April

Queen Latifah has joined the high-profile cast of Lifetime’s Steel Magnolias, a contemporary take on Robert Harling’s 1989 feature.

In Lifetime’s modern iteration, Steel Magnolias will chronicle the lives and friendship of six Louisiana-based women who congregate regularly at Truvy’s beauty shop. The project will begin production in April in Atlanta for a premiere this year.

The telefilm, which begins shooting in Atlanta in April, also includes Alfre Woodard, Adepero Oduye and Condola Rashad among its cast members.

Mingle in Midtown and Shining Light Walk – Tuesday, March 20 7-10PM

Living in an urban area always requires you to be aware of your surroundings. It’s just a simple fact. Heck, I do it even in the burbs! I’m always watching if someone is walking behind me, close to me,standing around, etc. And it’s great to see when a neighborhood comes together for safety. Well, and an adult beverage can’t hurt, right? Welcome Midtown Neighbors’ Association’s (MNA) Mingle in Midtown and Shining Light Walk! This edition will take place THIS Tuesday, March 20 from 7-10pm at Cypress Pint and Plate, located at 6th and Cypress streets, just behind Cornerstone Village and Spire Midtown!

My friend and owner, Billy from Cypress Pint and Plate will do his usual finest with munchies and drink specials. Then, at 7:30pm the 2nd Shining Light Walk will commence. Beginning at 7:30 (not much time for an adult beverage…I’d arrive at 6:30pm myself) the walk will head to Myrtle Street, 4th Street and then back to Cypress Pint and Plate.

This type of event is designed for a couple of reasons. One, to bring the neighbors out of their condos and cottages of Midtown Atlanta to meet and two, to show anyone thinking about commiting a crime in Midtown Atlanta that you’re being watched!

I’ll be there and look forward to seeing you all there as well. Be sure to say Hello!

Do You Have the Measurements of that Midtown Atlanta Condo?

Questions we are asked as real estate professionals range from reasonable to riduclous, and everything in between. In my time, I’ve found most questions to be reasonable. Keeping in mind that Buyers and Sellers all are individuals with their own wants and needs. So of course those questions will vary. I’m often asked about the size of a condo but, Do You have the Measurements of that Midtown Atlanta Condo?

In selling Midtown Atlanta condos for the past 6 years, I’ve become pretty knowledgable in the various buildings in my market. One key component of my market knowledge is floor plans for many of the buildings. Most of these came for original sales/developer materials. So, as a result they list total square footage, but dont’ look to “pretty” if you muddy them up with the dimensions of every room, nook and cranny.

I had a request today from an agent who showed one of my listings. I’m not sure how versed she is in condo sales, as she also asked me for an additional parking space as the Buyer has 2 cars. Ah, rule of thumb…1 parking space per bedroom and mine is a 1 bedroom. She also asked me if the Seller had a floor plan of the condo. I replied I did…and in fact, it was emailed to her before we even finished the conversation. About 30 minutes later came the e-mail, “Do You have the Measurements for that condo?”

A word to the wise, both in Buying or Selling (showing) Midtown Atlanta condominiums. Bring your tape measure.

Another word to the wise…that sectional that looks so lovely in your living room will probably not fit in a condo living room.

If you are buying a condominium, you may not be able to visualize your furniture there, or if your bed will fit. So, make sure you bring a tape measure to check the space.

If you are working with me, I’ll have one. So, in a word, Yes, I Do Have the Measurements of that Midtown Atlanta Condo!

Georgia recruits get a taste of Hollywood | AJC College Sports Recruiting

Some of the Georgia’s top high school football prospects got a taste of Hollywood while visiting Georgia Tech this weekend.

Some scenes from the Clint Eastwood movie “Trouble With the Curve” are being filmed at Georgia Tech’s baseball stadium. The movie “revolves around an aging baseball scout (played by Eastwood), who goes on a road trip to Atlanta with his daughter to check out a potential recruit,” according to MTV.com. Justin Timberlake also appears in the film.

Midtown Atlanta Condos With Pools

It’s March in Atlanta….so what does that mean? We will soon be living up to our name “Hotlanta” as the summer temps head into the 90’s and a humidity number to match! It can make for sticky days…but what better way to take off the summer heat than a dip in the pool. And to do that you would need a Midtown Atlanta Condo With a Pool!

I’ve often had a Midtown Atlanta Condo Buyer tell me that a pool is not that important to them when they are looking for a home. To this, I often reply, “You may not use the pool, but you always want to think about the day you want to sell, and what the next owner may want.” Also, I’ve had buyers experience a Midtown Atlanta summer, and later say, “Oh, we are so glad you sold us a condo in a building with a pool.” See, I told you so!

With a single family home and a pool in the back yard, you the homeowner, are responsible for the maintenance and upkeep. But in a condominium, the pool maintenance is handled by the homeowner’s association (HOA) and is part of the monthly HOA fee you pay. So, you get to enjoy the pool, without having to do the work. How awesome is that!

Midtown Atlanta Condo Pools do come in all shapes and sizes. While most of them are well thought out and designed with the user in mind, you will find an occasional pool that does not have a big “wow” factor. But even some condo buildings, like Cornerstone Village and Peachtree Lofts are making renovations to their pool areas. 805 Peachtree did some major changes to their pool area a couple years ago. Newer condo buildings like Viewpoint Midtown and Plaza Midtown Atlanta made their pool designs a major selling point of the community.

Interestingly enough, it is actually easier to tell you the Midtown Atlanta Condo communities that DO NOT have a pool, rather than list the ones that do. These Midtown Atlanta Condo buildings do not have pools:

Colony Square
Hanover House
33 Ponce
Reid House
Grinnell (Inman Park Area)
The DeSoto
Fourteenth Place
Piedmont Park West Lofts

Can I Buy a Midtown Atlanta Condo for Under $60,000?

Real estate prices have certainly changed from a few years ago. That is no surprize to home sellers or buyers. And how much you are willing to spend/can afford will ususally dictate where you will be able to buy. So the question is, Can I Buy a Midtown Atlanta Condo for Under $60,000? The answer is a sort of yes.

Sort of yes, because in Midtown proper, your options are very limited. Many people have many “descriptions” of what encompasses Midtown Atlanta. Of the 46 listings that came up in a search today, only 6 of them are in Midtown. The rest are in surrounding areas, that to most, would consider them in Midtown Atlanta. Some of the condos in our search are as far away as Cheshire Place Condominiums on Cheshire Bridge Road near LaVista Road. Others are at City Heights Condominiums on Ralph McGill Blvd. NOT MIdtown proper, but to most, they would call this Midtown Atlanta.

Here is a map of our search, followed by the listings in the area. If you see a particular home you are interested in, why not contact me and we can schedule a personal showing! NOTE: You will notice some listings that are nowhere close to Midtown Atlanta. This is because the listing agent entered them in the wrong area and they are showing in the wrong search!!
